The most urgent need for Officer Liang is to raise funds to hire the best attorneys to appeal the case. Chinese Americans across the nation are rallying around to contribute. The Chinese American Association of Lexington (CAAL) calls for your generous donations. Helping Officer Liang is indeed helping ourselves and our children. CAAL is committed to passing all donations to a qualified organization that can properly represent Officer Liang. Given current status of the case, and the possible follow-up civil lawsuit, we do not recommend you donate directly to Officer Liang or any banking account under him.
You inaction today is equal to giving silent permission to such injustice. Tomorrow you children may become a scapegoat. Let's unite to make our voice heard, and donate to protect our own rights. Thank you!

Dear Friends,
On Feb. 20th, over 2500 Chinese Americans from all over New England gathered at Boston Common, to express our deepest sympathy to Mr. Akai Gurley and his family, as well as to show our grave concerns for the injustice upon NYPD Police Officer Peter Liang. It was one tragedy with two victims.Under the feet of the rallying crowd was the famous “Boston Freedom Trail”. It was here, over 240 years ago, the founding fathers of America fought to win their freedom. Over 50 years ago, African Americans led the Civil Rights Movement to gain their equal rights. However, today Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream of equal treatment for all still remains a dream, not only for African Americansbut also for Chinese Americans. The unfairness and injustice surfaced by the Peter Liang trial, revealed the bone-chilling reality that ethnic minorities are still being treated as second-class citizens, and used as scapegoat! Liang, a second-generation Chinese American, who grew up in this land eating McDonald's and watching Super Bowl like other kids, was educated to believe he was the same like other kids. But he was treated differently when this tragic accident happened… We can’t stop wondering - what about our kids?Dear fellow Chinese Americans, this is our country too! We live here, work hard, pay our taxes, obey the law, and go to churches with our neighbors… Without such wake-up call of the Liang case, we would still think everything is normal, everything is cool… Now we woke up. We have to fight for our own equal rights, to gain our own equal treatment, just like the people ahead of us. There is no shortcut. There is no free ride. This is a country that honors Do-It-Yourself. We have to do it ourselves to win equal justice! We have to do it for ourselves, for our children, and for this great nation to remain healthy and fair! Dr. Martin Luther King once said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. If we succumb to the injustice inflicted on a fellow citizen like Peter Liang and remain silent, we are actually giving our permissions to let it repeat again. We have to stop it, this time, right here, for Peter Liang!Let’s unite to help! As good American citizens, we still believe in the values and principles of this great nation. We will play by the rules and fix its imperfections for all! Do the best you can, donate to the fund to help Peter Liang, and help ourselves and our next generations!- Please make your check payable to “Lexington for Peter Liang” and mail to: CAAL, P.O. Box 453, Lexington, MA 02420.- Use Paypal to “Send money to friends or family”to:freepeterliang@caal-ma.orgCAAL will ensure every dollar will go into Peter Liang’s Legal Funding Trust. (Note: this type of donation is not tax deductible)
However, the most important thing is that we all go out to vote!Only that shows we are a true political power! If we don't act, dream will never come true! Please vote on March 1st!
